Many manufacturing companies also
require a business name and tax/federal ID numbers in order to do
business with them. Therefore, you will want to legally establish
your business.
Choosing a business name
In selecting a business name, you
will want to choose one that is specific to your particular business.
The online directories, like Yahoo.com, that you will list your
business under will ask you for your business name, and if it doesn't
relate to what your business is about, then you won't be listed.
Therefore, choose a business name that has a keyword that describes
your business in it.
You may have a general DBA set up
that is an umbrella for all of your particular websites that you
can file your taxes under, but you will want separate DBA's for
each particular website you've got.
Before you register your DBA, you must first check to see if it
is available. You can do that with your local county clerk's office
or the state tax commission office (see below).
Also, as part of registering your
business, you'll need to have chosen a legal structure for your
business, see the Business Structure
article.
Where to
register
You can register your business name
and get your tax/federal ID number at your local county clerk's
office or the state tax commission office for your individual state.
At www.sba.gov,
you can find where to register your business for your individual
state. Go there directly by clicking here.
